Branford High School Poet Writing Class

The Branford Center Cemetery provides a unique resource to the Town, the State and to all who wish to learn more about our community’s history. It has been the burial ground for centuries of Branford citizens, including some of our earliest settlers, people who fought in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars as well as their children and wives. There are immigrants from many nations, Yale professors and a Nobel Laureate.
The gravestones represent many periods and styles and yield much information about the people buried here and the times in which they lived.
There are also many old and unique documents, maps and records archived in our building. these archives provide educational and research opportunities to anyone who seeks to learn more about our history and the wider context of the region’s and the nation’s formative years.
Over the years we have welcomed many groups to explore the cemetery and its resources. We are particularly happy to have our local schools introduce their students to the abundant historical knowledge available here.
